forest gardening, livestock

One possibility would be to start encouraging native species of rabbits to hang around.

Yeh that's what I had in mind (I mean I didn't want the tame sort you have to buy; for a start they taste awful). I was wondering which would be the least pain in the ass, chickens breaking in/out of your living space above ground or rabbits burrowing in your foundations...  :  )

Obviously fish can live in ponds and just get on with it, so they are a big yes. It's pretty easy to (harmlessly) trap wild rabbits and get them ON to the land, but they might just feck off, and chickens can be put on there and will stay as they tend not to feck off. Maybe the answer is try everything, and better prickly bush cover to stop chickens getting into living spaces.

Just reading Wong's “Homegrown Revolution”, it's a useful directory of edible plants, not so good as 'plants for a future' database but the graphics help.

Re: forest gardening, livestock

Getting anything to stick around obviously requires providing the resources they need.  Rabbits, especially wild one, are always looking for cover from and protection in general from all directions.  They also like to eat our garden, especially kale is seems.  So based on these fact, I would leave pile of brush around the property for them to hide out in and maybe plant a few remote gardens and build a compost pile just for bugsy.
