Re: The first cyborg...?

The first cyborg was probably some pirate with a wooden leg. Or dentures.

Re: The first cyborg...?

It's sooooo cute ...

But seriously, I am mildly surprised that no-one has yet tried either growing a huge brain-in-a-tank, or perhaps more plausibly, wiring loads of rat brains or cultured neural networks together with electronics, perhaps wiring them up to a computer and a robot body as well and seeing what happens. We have the technology, its just a matter of funding and ethics.

Will this do?

:  )

Btw, if we've got the technology, and if all users are volunteers, why do we need to look at funding or ethics?

Re: The first cyborg...?

Here's nifty device also. http://www.hanselman.com/blog/ADiabetic … ndCGM.aspx
Scroll half way down the page...let's hope that's not the last cyborg of her kind ;)

btw, might have discovered this if I had bothered to read a bit, but does the rats brain actually receive feedback from teh robot/cyborg?  This opens up a whole world of possibilities :D

btw again, How the heck do we add an image to the post.  Tried to copy and past to no avail.

Peace,
Johnny

Re: The first cyborg...?

One more thing, I have heard that there is a needleless blood sugar meter out there.  Figured you guys would know if this were so or not.

I was looking at oximeters and got to wondering what applications would this have.  Other than basic biofeedback are there anyone uses for know my O2 reading... duh I'm sort of answering my own question.  Feeling a little numb in the dome right now and realized that there is probably a direct link to the amount of oxygen in my blood.
Here's a really inexpensive one btw, http://www.overstock.com/Health-Beauty/ … rcmndsrc=2

I've put a post to explain that in the 'Forum Tips' topic.

Whether the users are volunteers depends on whether the users are humans or rat brains!
You could need the funding to scale it up, and in a academic setting you're not going to get funding if people think what you are doing is unethical (Fools! Clinging to their antiquated concepts of 'morality'! BWWAHH HHA HA HA!)

Re: The first cyborg...?

Hi dude,
...If the users are just us, there's no need to 'scale it up'.
Bugger everyone else; they can build their own LOL  :  )

I always wished we had someone like Terminator or Robocop as a housemate... but I guess like anyone else they'd have their downside...kitched full of damned baby food, whole place stinks of machine oil, need  reinforced carpets, etc etc.

Re: The first cyborg...?

A little off topic here but, I was reading an article about research on the effects of microwaves on humans and so many people here in the US are getting treats of loss of funding and such if the researchers dare to publish their funding.  That is the sad result of chase the images of little green dead men.

Yeah Indy :D
